Your trip to New York is fast approaching, but you don’t have a clue where to stay. This is the post for you! I have been to New York on several occasions and tested out many different hotels. Here is a list of my favourite and worst accommodations. My detailed experience will include everything from tips on where to stay to which options to choose. Find out my travel tips for New York. Let’s go!
New York trip: where to stay?
Let’s begin with the first decision: where to stay in New York. If this is your first visit to New York, I recommend staying in Midtown or Meat Packing because they are the closest to all the tourist attractions. These are the main tourist attractions.
If you are a first-time visitor to New York, look for a hotel tucked away from the downtown area. You will be able to see NY in a different light.
What is the best plan for me? Book 4 nights first in Midtown and then 3 in another area if you’re going for a week. Discover another part of New York City, whether it is Soho or Brooklyn! You’ll get the feeling of two trips in one.
New York’s favourite accommodations
For our third trip, we decided to spend four nights in Soho and three in Brooklyn. This combination was perfect, and we felt like we had done two trips in one!
Soho, New York: Where to stay?
You can reach anywhere in Soho very quickly. This neighbourhood allows you to enjoy the benefits of Manhattan without the downsides of Midtown. Don’t be afraid to take a stroll in the city early in the morning if you are a riser! This walk is magic! What are the best places to stay in New York for this area? We stayed in the Bowery Hotel for the first leg of our journey. The Bowery Hotel was a good choice even though some renovations would be needed. Its “old-school style” and 50s rooms will not appeal to those who prefer modernity. The comfort was there, though: the room is spacious, the bathroom is large, and the bed is so comfortable that I could have stayed in it all day.
Brooklyn
We headed to Brooklyn for the remainder of our stay! The atmosphere is more relaxed in this neighbourhood, and there are many artists. It was the ideal place to digest Manhattan and end our stay. The 1 Hotel Central Park was a luxurious hotel with a spectacular view of Manhattan! In the best way possible! It is rare to find a hotel in the United States with an eco-responsible philosophy. The hotel offers a high-quality stay (FREE Wine Tasting every day from noon to 5 pm – a perfect place for an aperitif! ). Still, it is important to consider the distances to Manhattan and the fact that the subway serves fewer places.
My recommendation
Avoid the “included” breakfast at your hotel. These are usually expensive and of poor quality. It would be a waste to limit yourself to the classic continental breakfast buffet in New York City. In this article, I’ll give you some brunch places to visit in New York. The breakfast we had at our hotel was a total disappointment. We got a jar of coffee, three defrosted croissants, pains au chocolate, 10 slices of toast with jam, all for ….. You can find some great brunches for only $70 in New York.
Luxury hotel prices in NYC
Each time I visit NYC, the prices are always shocking. Prepare to pay twice as much for similar services as you would in Europe. This is a big difference.
Don’t forget to add taxes and tips. Taxes are usually added to hotel bookings automatically so that there are no surprises. If you’re going to a hotel, taxes are normally added automatically. In hotels, tips are not expected. However, they may be added in restaurants. Pay attention to the total when you receive your bill.
The best way to reduce costs is to avoid the school holidays. It was very expensive to go to NYC during the Christmas holidays.
Hotels in New York that I have stayed at
This is a list I’ve made of the accommodations that I’ve stayed at during my visits to New York. They are all places I would recommend because I’ve never been disappointed. You’ll find all the answers to your questions about where to stay in New York in this list!
- The Standard (Meatpacking) is a stunning hotel with an amazing view of New Jersey. The rooftop is very famous. The hotel also has a nightclub, so you can specify if noise is a problem.
- The Bowery Hotel in Soho: We stayed here during our last trip to New York. The hotel needs a facelift, but we still love its charm. It was like being in another era! The comfort was beyond words.
- 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn: This hotel has the best view of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. If you go during the summer, you can also find a pool on top of the hotel. The hotel was fantastic, with wood and plants all over. It is made of ultra-warm materials. We loved it.
- Hilton (Midtown) is a global chain hotel. It was not very popular, but the location and comfort were perfect for our first trip.
