Ischia Travel Guide: Insider Tips, Top Attractions, and Hidden Gems

You’ve heard of Capri, Sicily and Sardinia, but what about Ischia, the Italian island? This charming Italian island is nestled in the azure waters of the Gulf of Naples. It offers a refreshing getaway from the crowds. It’s less well-known than its more famous counterparts but is gaining in popularity because of its beautiful landscapes, thermal waters, pristine beaches and ancient ruins. This hidden gem gives you the White Lotus feel without the exorbitant price tag. I will share with you all that I learned on my trip to Ischia in June. I hope this helps you plan your Ischia adventure. Please do it now before the next big thing comes along!

Transport Options to Ischia

Have you decided to visit Ischia? The first step is to figure out how you’re going to get there. Naples will be your starting point. So, fly, drive or take the train to Naples to get to the Port. Uber does not service the city. You will have to negotiate with the taxi driver or figure out how to use public transport. Taxis cost between 25 and 35 euros. There is also the option of taking a bus. Alibus shuttle buses depart from the airport approximately every 20-30 minutes and take you directly to Naples’ central station. You can then take the train to Naples’ Port (be sure you get off at Napoli Porta Garibaldi).

You have two choices once you reach the Port of Naples:

Take a ferry. You’ll find that several companies make a lot of trips daily. Some are faster than others. I chose a hydrofoil with Alilauro, which took me to the island within an hour. You can purchase tickets in advance through ferry companies or via my favourite aggregate site, Ferry Scanner. If you are looking for tickets in Napoli (Beverello), the ticket price should be around 21 euros. The booking will need to be exchanged for the real ticket in the Port. However, if it is a busy day (and it usually is in summer), you can reserve your seat by purchasing it in advance. ).

You can arrive in style with a private boat rental if you are feeling really fancy. If I had that kind of cash, I would book a private transfer to Naples Airport.

Accommodation in Ischia – Recommendations

Let’s discuss where you can rest your head on Ischia. Accommodations are available for all tastes and budgets.

You can enjoy the Mediterranean Sea from the front row of a waterfront hotel if you are a beach lover. Enjoy a fruity cocktail by the pool and feel like a star. Consider these options

The property is beautiful, and I would love to stay there someday.

There are many charming accommodations hidden in the narrow streets and hills of Ischia. It’s like finding a hidden gem. These are some of the best-rated guesthouses:

Don’t forget about thermal spa resorts. Imagine yourself being pampered in natural hot springs and getting treated like a king or queen.

If you have a large group, we recommend booking an apartment like the one we did. The condo, Acqua Marina, comfortably accommodates seven people. Can you even believe the view?

You’ll sleep like a child on this amazing island, no matter where you stay.

What to pack for Ischia? Essential items for your trip

As I was packing for my trip, it came as no surprise that I looked at the weather. I was surprised to learn that Ischia and my concept of a mid-70s temperature (which is 24 degrees Celsius for those who don’t speak Celsius) are two completely different things. I thought it would get colder in the evenings, so I packed some jackets and sweaters. What did I learn? I didn’t need a coat or sweater. It was not even a tiny bit. If this was the case in June, visitors to those months could travel in ultra-light.

The packing list for your island vacation is standard.

Transport options in Ischia

On Ischia, there are many options for getting from A to B. Some options are better than others, depending on your circumstances.

We were a group of 8 and relied on walking, taking the local bus, or splitting cabs to get around. Renting a car is an option (though I wouldn’t recommend it after seeing how people drive on the narrow streets and manoeuvre around). You can also rent a scooter if you want to feel the wind in your face and like adventure.

Taxis were not cheap. A 6-8-minute drive from the harbour to our accommodation, for example, costs around 20 euros. If you split the cost with other people, it’s not so bad, but when you travel alone or in a pair, these costs can add up. The island is well connected by bus, and tickets can be purchased at small Tabacchi shops.

Taxis on the island are dominated by cash, so always carry some euros.

The best places to eat at Ischia

Eden Ischia

Eden Ischia, a hotel, beach club, restaurant, and more, is the perfect place to experience La Dolce Vita, especially if you stay close by like we did. We first came as guests for dinner (the view from the castle at night is breathtaking!) Later, we enjoyed the beautiful beach club on their stunning seafront (more about that later). The restaurant was a little on the expensive side, but it wasn’t too bad. I spent about EUR75 for a four-person group, which included sharing some apps, a main course, a drink, and a dessert. The atmosphere is great, as are the views of the castle. !
